Talapus Lake

Talapus Lake
September 12, 1998

This was our September BoBaby outing, and we had quite the turn out! Rob was there with Lizzie, Javier with Sarah, Glenn and Sandy with Dario, Steve and Nancy with Gillian (and Sunny), Jeff and Carolyn with Rachel, and of course Maren, Bryden and me! The water at Talapus Lake had been so nice in early August that I thought we'd have a great time splashing around in it again this nice September day. Wrong! What a difference 6 weeks can make! In early August, the water was in the mid to upper 60s - not warm, but quite comfortable to swim in. Now, the water was barely 60 degrees - wadeable, but no one really wanted to go swimming! Bryden and Lizzie were the only kids who really got wet, and I waded in with Bryden so he'd have someone to play with (and keep him safe). Still, it was a pleasant walk to the lake, and it was fun having a picnic lunch around the shoreline. I think the kids enjoy getting out for walks with each other (although they didn't do much of the walking themselves!), and Sunny was certainly a hit, especially when Steve coaxed her to jump in the water after sticks - although when she got out and shook to dry off, everyone seemed to give her plenty of room!

On the way out I managed to lose a contact lens, so I had to be a little careful hiking, since I had no depth perception. Also on the way out we ran into Phil Condit (ex-CEO of Boeing) hiking in to the lake with a friend. Without one contact, I didn't quite recognize him, but Sandy and Glenn stopped to chat with him for a bit. All in all, quite a fun outing!
